Poll - Why are you NOT going to vote?
I have voted already, and what my choices were is not relevant to this question. I would like to find out what the issues are that keep people from voting? People in other countries fight, die and are killed, trying to vote or even just to get the right to vote the first time. I heard a statistic that we are looking at maybe 55% voter turnout for this election. My question to you, and please leave them anonymously if you would like, is why are you not voting in this election?
I just got this idea on the way in to work today, and I would like to do something for the next election. I want to have a table with a microphone, probably outside of a BART station, and ask people to record a quick statement about why they are not going to vote. I would edit the recording into something that I could sent to politicians that actually want some issues to address. The totals will be posted here as well. Why do we not take advantage of what is probably the single biggest privilege/right that we have in this country?

2004: I had just moved to Long Beach and had to cast a provisional ballot. A year later I received a notice telling me I had missed jury duty... in Marin. I called and told them that the reason I couldn't make it was that I now lived 400 miles away and they said, "Okay, we got your info from your voter registration." Which means my provisional ballot was not recorded, not counted, not even looked at.
Today, even though I registered to vote, my name was not on the roles. They said, "Well, you can cast a provisional ballot." I said "no thanks, I know how much good that does."
Hi, I come from LP's site to tell you why I decided not to vote. Give me a damn choice! You've herd the saying "lesser of two evils", well I don't want to vote evil at all! These polititions don't speak or have answers for what is important to me, Net Nutrality, homelessness, minimum wage, universal healthcare, free trade, governmental reform, legalization of marijuana, corporate reform/accountability, voter reform ect... Give me a coice besides red and blue, in my opinion, they're more interested in finger pointing, negativity, and giving excuses instead of options. I'm 22 and from Michigan, I voted the last election. Another thing is give me a reliable, way of voting, there is no consistancy with the machines. So instead of "lesser of two evils" I chose none of the above. Not voting is my ballot, and I'm glad I live in a country where I have that choice.
Thanks,
K.Richard

Yo, so, like, I usually vote, and last time I did, but this time I did not, and the basic reason was: way too fucking distracted by life. We moved to Phoenix right during the lead up and moment (quite literally) of the election this year, so this time I just could not focus on it. Plus, my vote would have been in California where people were already going to make the choices I would have made already. (I know this because of past election results.) Also, the local elections in Vallejo didn't mean squat to me, because that town is so hosed they present a roster of idiots every single time. So who cares. It's one of the reasons why we left, actually. I consider myself a social virus planted into the body of Republican Christianity that is Maricopa county, and I will do my best to infect the host with prudence, rationality, historical understanding, humility and introspection that us small-l libertarians are known for. :)
A note for those who have already merged their gmail account name with their old blogger ID: do not try to use your gmail account name for leaving comments here. It's a mess. I strongly advise selecting all on your comment and keeping it in your clipboard because you might encounter issues trying to post the comment, and you don't wan to have to recreate it a bunch of times...
It is just me, or do you almost never post? What's up with that?!
TRIPPY, DUDE. My comment from like, weeks back and shit, about not voting, never posted because of some weird error. Then, just today, I posted the comment about you not posting very often. And BAM! My voting comment posted! Out of the blue! Typed weeks ago! Computer turned off and on multiple times since! This is terrifying! LOL
