The People of Burning Man 1998

Getting Painted

Ahhh, the people! This is what makes Burning Man the most unique event anywhere. They, or should I say WE are there to make the experience the best it can be for everyone in attendance. Each person that I met had found their way to contribute something to the event. Music, art, good attitude, massage, food, drink, all were suitable contributions, and all were usually returned with interest.

This guy was out in the hot sun, on the Esplanade, doing some of the coolest airbrush body painting I've seen. This was the best way that I saw to travel around Black Rock City. Faster! Right at Center Camp, this is where some of the most vivid body paint colors came from. Some very creative people here! OH MY GOD! Someone call a Ranger! Oh wait, that is a ranger, calling a ranger, for a ranger. Oh wait, he's just making Dust Angels and doesn't need our help. Frank in Air-conditioned, Motorhomed, cushy chaired goodness.

The worlds largest, and possibly only gasoline powered vibrator! Wave that flag, what a great country this is! Ouch! Or not. He didn't seem to think so. He was hanging from several hooks through the skin of his shoulders, was suspended from springs, and was riding through camp. The "official" Burning Man fake ID card. Can I buy booze with this? How many Jawas does it take to screw together a sand crawler? Three I guess. John Axtell. One of the people I ran into that I knew, but didn't know was coming to Burning Man. He's a great guitarist, and got to play a gig in the desert. Put THAT on your resume John!

KAOS 107.7 Listen for us next year! This guy already got a tattoo he liked us so much! The Karmic People Wash. Scrub first then rinse, then dry. You really do come out feeling spiritually cleaner. Ahhh.. the Mud Pit. What better way to stay cool than to roll around in the mud 100,000 hippos can't be wrong. This woman was taking Polaroid pictures with a pinhole camera! The sky and clouds looked really incredible. Croquet? In the desert? You Bet! The Lizard Lounge went all out with astroturf and all.

What can you see from up there Seth? Just about everything I'd guess. Me and my sister! I can't believe I actually found her, but trust me, the message board in Center Camp really works! Heather and Beth on a beautiful desert night. Actually, she found me. Kinda hard to miss the big Jiffy Pop dome, I guess! T.J. and Eds wreaking havoc.

Now THAT could make you feel inadequate! How many people does it take to raise a pole? Lots! Big trapeze under the bigger sky. No safety nets here. Aaaaugh! Now THOSE are big speakers. Where'd everybody go? Max would sure like to know.
